What is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is often called “the gentle art” – and for good reason. It’s a grappling-based martial art that focuses on ground fighting, leverage, and technique rather than brute strength. The core idea is simple but powerful: a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend themselves (and even dominate) a larger opponent by using proper technique, timing, and body mechanics.

BJJ is built around:

  • Positional control – learning how to stay safe and in charge on the ground.
  • Submissions – joint locks and chokes that safely end a fight or sparring round.
  • Escapes and defense – getting out of bad spots and building calm under pressure.

Beyond self-defense, BJJ is one of the most effective full-body workouts you’ll ever try. It builds strength, mobility, cardio, and – maybe most importantly – mental resilience. You’ll learn to stay calm when things get uncomfortable, on and off the mat.

Our philosophy rests on four simple pillars:

  • Eat – Less refined sugar, more raw foods, plenty of water, and vegetables without limits. A high-fat, high-protein, low-refined-carb lifestyle that fuels real performance.
  • Breathe – Deep breathing, proper oxygenation, meditation, and mindfulness. One day at a time.
  • Sleep – 7–8 hours minimum. Recovery is where the magic happens.
  • Move – Reactivating the body in every direction: animal locomotion, natural movement, and of course Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

BJJ Class for Women* and FLINTA – Fridays, 6–7 PM

Every Friday evening, our mats become a space built specifically for women* and FLINTA who want to discover Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu without the usual noise. Led by our coach Melissa, this one-hour session blends technical depth with an atmosphere that’s relaxed, supportive and fun – ideal if you’re brand new to grappling or simply looking for a training home where you feel instantly at ease. The beauty of BJJ is that it was designed around leverage and timing rather than raw strength, which is exactly why it’s become such a powerful tool for women worldwide: on the mat, smart movement beats muscle every single time. You’ll learn real self-defense skills, build confidence in how you move and carry yourself, and connect with training partners who get exactly where you’re starting from. 

First class is free, drop-ins are 10€, and women get 50% off their first 3 months of membership – with flexible monthly cancellation, no strings attached. Just bring curiosity; we’ll take care of the rest.

What to Expect on Your First BJJ Class

Walking into a new dojo can feel intimidating – we get it. Here’s what your first day looks like:

  1. Arrive 15 minutes early to change and get settled
  2. You’ll be greeted personally and introduced to training partners who have been exactly where you are now.
  3. Warm-up, technique drills, and light practice – the coach adjusts everything to your level.
  4. Leave with a smile, sore muscles, and probably already thinking about coming back.

You don’t need to be fit, flexible, or strong to start. You’ll build those on the mat.
